Description
This course covers topics relevant to the practice of roof consulting and related roofing activities including the design, manufacture, installation, observation, inspection, and maintenance of roof components and assemblies. Topics include design for wind and fire resistance; fluid-applied membranes; roof flashing design and problems; roof and moisture surveys; maintenance and repair; roof asset management; expanded use roof systems, steep slope roofing, clay and concrete, and metal roofing principles.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Understand the basics of design for wind and fire resistance, with a focus on building codes and testing protocols and their historical origins.
2. Describe the formulation, characteristics, installation procedures, and quality assurance metrics for fluid-applied membranes, steep slope roofing, clay and concrete tiles, and metal roofing.
3. Identify the roles and responsibilities of participants in the roofing profession in conducting roof surveys, moisture surveys, maintenance and repair and roof asset management. Articulate best practices and appropriate tools and procedures relevant to each of these activities.
4. Relate the challenges and opportunities presented when roofs serve additional functions such as paver decks or vegetated roofs. Explain the nature, function, use, and limitations of these assemblies and their components.
